Orthodontics

About this Project

Orthodontic treatment, or ‘braces’, is a way of straightening or moving teeth, to improve the appearance of the teeth and how they function. Orthodontic treatment can also help to look after the long-term health of your teeth, gums and jaw joints, by spreading the biting pressure over all your teeth. The best time to have orthodontic treatment is generally during early teenage years, but adults can have orthodontic treatment too - and more and more are doing so. In children it is often necessary to wait for enough teeth to come through before starting treatment. The first step is to have a full examination. This will usually involve looking at your teeth, taking x-rays, and making plaster models of your teeth. Our orthodontist will then discuss what treatment options are possible, and likely time and costs of treatment. Once you are sure you want to go ahead, the treatment can then start. Today’s orthodontics offers more options that ever before, from fixed braces on the outside of your teeth, removable appliances, Invisalign (clear retainers), or invisible braces on the inside of your teeth (the system we use is called ‘Incognito’).
